So now you have passed the Selection Piscine. What’s Next? Next, you’ll start studying at Codam. One of the first things that will happen is that you will be assigned to one of our three student coalitions (like the houses in Harry Potter): Pyxis, Vela or Cetus. Your coalition is there to help you learn the ropes at Codam! Once you’ve been sorted you will start the actual curriculum and dig into your first project.

Contrary to common teacher-based learning, peer-to-peer learning removes the teacher in favor of collaborative learning between students. You will have to seek knowledge and share it, leading to constructive discussions and productive arguments. This process will ensure that information comes from several different peer-reviewed sources, and will remain up to date.

+

At Codam, any team finishing a project must submit it for peer-review from other students. Each one of these fellow students will then grade the submitted project against a scale provided by staff. The evaluation sessions happen face-to-face and are fantastic opportunities to have a lively discussion.

+

At Codam you will study with an innovative curriculum, one whose learning method is project based. This system is similar to how you might work in a future company, and it therefore prepares you for the working world. Lastly, you can decide which direction to go. This gives you the freedom to try out any field of tech you want.

+

The curriculum at Codam has been gamified such that you gain levels for the projects that you complete. Milestones are also measured by your level and you’re rewarded for achievements.

+

At Codam we want to set you up for the best future in tech you can achieve, that's why our curriculum is set up in such a way that you can easily add each project you do to your CV so that you can show companies exactly what you can do! Here it's not about getting a piece of paper, but it's about showing the things you truly master.

+

Failing is a very important part of learning. You can learn from your previous mistakes. And since we have a gamified system, this means you can retry each project, just like a level in a game!

The curriculum

The curriculum at Codam has been split up into multiple steps, each designed to lead effortlessly into the next. Each project in the curriculum has been designed to teach a particular aspect of programming. The first project, starting with the basics of programming, builds upon the previous until you become a pro at programming. The steps are there to help build experience and ability.

The curriculum is designed so that you can easily choose what path in programming you want to do, whether it be algorithms, security or graphics (just to name a few).

The community

We care a lot about the Codam community. We strengthen this by for instance inviting people from a specific industry to come and do a talk at our school. Or we have tickets ready for the nicest conferences. We watch movies together in the auditorium and everyday at 3 there is a meditation session in the bean bags area. On top of that we have a friendly competition between our 3 coalitions; Cetus, Pyxis and Vela. You can score points for your 'house' and at the end of the year the winning house will have a party in their honour.

The building

The Codam building has everything to work and have proper breaks. We have a huge green lawn in front of the building to throw frisbees and hold soccer competitions. Or what about a picnic at 'Mount Guus' (Look it up on Google maps). Inside we have an entire room specific for games, from Playstation zombies to Mario Karts. On the ground floor we also have a huge chessboard to beat your friends in a game. Or you can go on the first floor where we have a library and Lego corner. Not your type of thing, you can also play a little tune on a guitar, drumset or piano. But at the end of the day we are here to learn, so we have two amazing clusters filled with 120 iMacs each.
